Spring and cherry blossoms in Washington, DC - Your ultimate guide to the National Cherry Blossom Festival and springtime in DC

Dear Members,

We’re celebrating Passport DC, a beloved DC tradition that runs from May 1-31 and has several prominent events coming up: the free Around the World Embassy Tour (May 4), the free European Union House (May 11) and the Fiesta Asia Street Fair (May 18).

Congratulations to the Washington Capitals on a fantastic regular season. The city is excited to see the Caps defend their Stanley Cup title. Capital One Arena, and the DMV area, will be rocking the red to support the team in the coming weeks. This is an exciting time for sports in DC, as the Washington Nationals have started their season and D.C. United is chasing another playoff appearance.

Destination DC will announce the District’s 2018 domestic visitation numbers and tourism’s economic impact during our annual Travel Rally on May 7, held in conjunction with the U.S. Travel Association during National Travel and Tourism Week. More details to come.

This week, I will participate in my first meetings as chair of the U.S. Travel Association’s board of directors. I’m honored to have the chance to impact our industry through priorities that facilitate more international and domestic travel and illuminate the economic impact of our work.

Finally, please mark your calendars for our annual Marketing Outlook Meeting on Aug. 27, our vital industry event that will help you prepare for the upcoming fiscal year.

Read on for more information about current events and programs, recent media coverage and more.

Also, make sure to review our Monthly Visitor Statistics and to check out upcoming conventions in the On the Road & What's in Town section.

Kind regards,

Elliott L. Ferguson, II
President & CEO, Destination DC
